How do you tip?

Top 10 Money Drain

I received this from e-mail and i thought of sharing it to everybody. It's a great help to manage finances and of course to know also which among these are we guilty of so we can start saving our hard-earned money.

1. Coffee -- According to the National Coffee Association, the average price for brewed coffee is $1.38. There are roughly 260 weekdays per year, so buying one coffee every weekday morning costs almost $360 per year.

2. Cigarettes -- The Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids reports that the average price for a pack of cigarettes in the United States is $4.54. Pack-a-day smokers fork out $1,660 a year. Weekend smoker? Buying a pack once a week adds up, too: $236.

3. Alcohol -- Drink prices vary based on the location. But assuming an average of $5 per beer including tip, buying two beers per day adds up to $3,650 per year. Figure twice that for two mixed drinks a day at the local bar. That's not chump change.

4. Bottled water from convenience stores -- A 20-ounce bottle of Aquafina bottled water costs about $1. One bottle of water per day costs $365 per year. It costs the environment plenty, too.

5. Manicures -- The Day Spa Magazine Price Survey of 2004 found that the average cost of a manicure is $20.53. A weekly manicure sets you back about $1,068 per year.

6. Car washes -- The average cost for a basic auto detailing package is $58, according to Costhelper.com. The tab for getting your car detailed every two months: $348 per year.

7. Weekday lunches out -- $9 will generally cover a decent lunch most work days. If you buy rather than pack a lunch five days a week for one year, you shell out about $2,350 a year.

8. Vending machines snacks -- The average vending machine snack costs $1. Buy a pack of cookies every afternoon at work and pay $260 per year.

9. Interest charges on credit card bills -- According to a survey released at the end of May 2007, the median amount of credit card debt carried by Americans is $6,600. Rate tables on Bankrate.com indicate that fixed interest rates on a standard card average 13.44 percent. Making the minimum payment each month, it will take 250 months (almost 21 years) to pay off the debt and cost $4,868 in interest. Ouch!

10. Unused memberships -- Costhelper.com reports that the monthly service fee at gyms averages between $35 and $40. At $40 per month, an unused gym membership runs $480 per year.

It is never late to save for the rainy day so try to avoid the list when you can help it. Have a trippin' Tuesday!

how to buy

Thank you my dear readers, because my Google page rank now is up to 3 and this blog baby is only 1 month and 5 days old!. I know you all made it possible by your links and visits to my technology posts. Thank you and once again, i give you another consumer tip.

Hubby and i went to Sharaf DG, the largest electronics shop in Dubai located at Times Square. We wanted to look for MP3 for the the car because FM stations here can play the songs over and over haha. The salesman who attended to us graciously gave us these thee pointers when buying a MP3 player.

1. If full-on portability and reliability are key for you, go for an MP3 player that is based on flash memory technology. Compared to hard drive models, these are far more smaller and more reliable because they lack moving internal components. As a result, they are easier to handle and will tolerate outdoor, rugged conditions better.

2. Pick a hard drive based MP3 player if you're tunes fanatic and want all your music with you all the time. While these players are more susceptible to damage or failure - owing to their hard drive based storage - they offer far greater storage capacities and thus better value for money than flash players.

3. Make sure your MP3 player has FM functionality. This is particularly important if you optb for limited capacity flash MP3 player, as this will save you from listening to the same tracks over and over again.

Porsche Mobile

Fancy a new phone? Hubby and I went for a road trip yesterday and I saw this huge billboard on Sheikh Zayed road shouting about a Porsche Design Mobile called P'9521. My curiosity was tickled further when I learned that this mobile offers exclusivity to the Middle East region and European countries because it is not available in US, Japan, or Korea. Here take a closer look at the latest hardware you must have hihi.

The casing is milled out of a solid aluminum block a 'a unique production method for mobile phones.' With this product, Porsche Design has remained loyal to its clear design language and has utilized sophisticated material. The typography, styling and colors of the menu emphasize the mobile phone’s very functional character. A double hinge made from aluminum enables the screen to be rotated through 180A a” thus allowing the phone to be used as a digital camera.

The P’9521 features a fingerprin
t reader, which clearly identifies the user and thus ensures secure access to personal data. In addition, individual fingerprints can be assigned to particular numbers or phone functions, making operation particularly easy. The standard PIN code can also be replaced by a fingerprint. The new mobile phone is available starting this fall 2007 in Porsche Design Stores and specialist mobile-phone retailers worldwide.

It is seriously expensive but then maybe worth it because the screen and the casing is impossible to scratch. Hmmmm, something to think about this Christmas.

how to buy

Good evening everyone. We just arrived from church and i feel sleepy now after a hearty dinner of fried rice and mongolian barbecue. But i just have to log in and check on my blog babies. I see that among the most visited on my entries is my clippings on how to buy. Thank you very much for your interest and to show my appreciation, i give you another buying tips before i bid everyone goodnight.

When buying a LCD Monitor, remember to consider the following:

1. All angles. Examine the viewing angle figures of the model you're considering. These stats will give you an idea of how flexible a screen is, in terms of being able to clearly see its content wherever you sit.

2. Power pack. If your desk space is at premium, check to see whether an LCD features a built-in power adapter, as this will help you save yet more space.

3. Fully featured. Monitor features such as height-adjustable stands and full swivel add yet more flexibility to your viewing.

4. Quick response. If you're keen on PC gaming, opt for a model with a super-low 'response rate' (measured in milliseconds). Ideally, you should buy a screen with a response under 10ms.

Hoooo-hum. I really must go now. Till next entry and may we all have sweet dreams tonight!!!

Toyota IQ

Hubby and I are big fans of Toyota. When we had the opportunity to buy our first ever family car, we opted for the 2008 Toyota Fortuner. It is one tough family SUV and based on a hi-lux so it is indestructible then. If there is one complain maybe, that it takes up a huge parking space. And it is among the growing concern here in Dubai. Maybe it is the reason why some people choose small cars, particularly the mini-cooper. But for the loyal Toyota fans, fret not longer because in the recent Tokyo motor show, Toyota unveiled its whacky concept of mini car. Check out this baby...

The IQ is a promising concept, mainly because it has strong chance of actually making it into the production. This ultra mini-car could eventually return as Toyota's rival to the poorly built but popular Smart cars.

According to Toyota, the interior will be premium and, despite the vehicle's ultra-compact dimensions, comfortable as well as spacious. In fact, Toyota claims that three adults and one child (or luggage) can fit inside comfortably, thanks to its ultra-efficient packaging. Moreover, since the IQ has a wider body than the current Smart, chances are it will handle much better than its frighteningly twitchy rival.

how to buy

I like anything vintage and antique. On our recent trip back home to Pinas, Hubby showed me his album while studying at the Philippine Military Academy. Oh he looked so dashing in his shaved head and formal uniform, i smuggled the entire album here. Of course, the most perfect way of getting a soft copy of these pic is through a scanner. I will share you then two tips on buying one so you can preserve even those brown studio pics of your great grand parents.

1. Make a resolution. Resolution is one of the most crucial specifications to consider when buying a scanner, but things are not always as they seem. A scanner's resoluti
on is the fineness of detail that it can achieve, measured in dots per inch (dpi). The greater the dpi, the greater the detail in your scans.

2. Be a native. Manufacturers often quote two different types of resolution: native and interpolated. Native is effectively the hardware resolution, while interpolated takes into account the effects of software, which can help to blow up a scanned image, but doesn't add extra detail. Most experts recommend sticking to the hardware-only figure.

learning from Glorietta horror

Our beloved banana republic was shaken last week because of the Glorietta bombing. While all of us are still recovering from this terrorizing act, I share with you a letter written by one of the victims. It was forwarded to my e-mail and it is pretty long but read worthy especially to all the couples, married or not.

Good day everyone,

I wish I were writing under different circumstances.

I would like to inform you that my wife Leslie Cruz
was part of the casualties in the Glorietta 2 Mall
bombing in Makati City, Philippines. She was supposed
to have a minor out patient surgery at Makati Medical
Center at 230pm.

I had taken a leave from work to accompany her there.
We dropped off our daughter, Amber, at my parents
place in QC to babysit at around 10am. We then
proceeded to Makati and was there at 1230pm. Since she
had been fasting in preparation for her procedure, she
wanted to move around and listen to some music while I
grabbed a bite to eat. We parked at the basement of
Park Square 2, and headed for the Glorietta 2
entrance. We parted at the top of the escalator, she
turned right towards Filbar's while I went left
towards the restaurants. That was the last time I
would see her.

Around 120pm, she had called me so that we can meet at
the Glorietta 2 exit just in time to make her
appointment. As I made my way there from Glorietta 1
through the connecting hallways, and was about to turn
the corner, I heard 2 deep thumps and the shock-wave
from the blast hit me. At that moment my heart dropped
as I knew that the origin of the blast came from the
same place where we were supposed to meet. I tried
getting to where my wife was, but the dust was too
much and it was as if I was staring at a white wall.

I still tried to convince myself that she was able to
make it out, and that after ringing her mobile without
a response only meant that she dropped it in the
confusion. After 6 hours of searching from Makati Med.
to Ospital ng Makati, the blast site, and back again
to MMC - with the help of all the people I could get
hold of, that I was able to get confirmation in what
the state of my wife was.

My Dad and Uncle signaled me in from the ER of MMC. My
Uncle (who's a doctor) asked me to describe Leslie's
appearance to another group of doctors. I saw in the
eyes of one that the description made sense. Instead
of confirming it to me, they huddled together, then
brought me to a small examination room. It was only
through a digital camera that I was able to confirm
(and deny) that she was indeed gone.

I have so many regrets. I should have met her sooner.
I should have ran instead of a brisk walk. I should
have not chose to park where I did. I should have
braved the dust and went in the blast site. I should
have ...

Today's the 4th day. It is still terribly difficult to
breathe, let alone wake up realizing that your source
of strength, your best friend doesn't lie beside you
on your bed. That my deepest worry is when Amber
starts asking for her Mama.

I am glad that Amber's too young to understand the
loss and pain. In time I would like to tell her the
details of how her mother died, but more importantly I
would like to raise her as how her mother lived - a
loving person, strong willed, decisive, caring, and
nurturing. She has always cared for her family and
friends, and sacrfied her career for being a full time
mom and home maker.

As with all couples we had our ups and downs - none of
which I regret not going through. The sweet is never
as sweet without the sour. For almost 4 years of
marriage, we've finally hit our balance in life only
to be taken away in an instant. I have no regrets
about our marriage. She has loved me and Amber beyond
her capacity. I will always love her.

It is my first time to write to egroup as I've lurked
and watched emails being sent to and fro. All I want
now is that for each of the couples here is to cherish
each moment that we spend with our loved ones. Pretty
simple to say, very easy to take for granted.

Thank you all for the prayers. I would still like to
ask you to please include Leslie in them until her
40th day so that the path to God's kingdom is well lit
and she is no longer in the dark.

Sincerely,

Carlo Cruz

how to buy

A happy Tuesday everyone! I just finished an opp, had a quick lunch and now i feel sleepy but let me share this tip first if you are thinking of buying a Digital Video Camera.

1. The resolution of a
digital video camera's CCD (charged couple device) governs its quality. Pick up a camera that offers at the very least a three-megapixel CCD, as this will allow for strong quality at a reasonable high resolution. For DVD quality captures, a camera with at least five mega-pixel CCD is a must.

2. Keep an eye on the amount of zoom offered - paying particular attention to the 'optical' zoom figure, which is produced by varying the distance of the camera's lens from the target. A camera's 'digital zoom' uses software and hardware to artificially enlarge the target.

3. If you want to transfer you video content direct to disc, some model cameras can capture and encode straight to CD or DVD. Otherwise, card slots, (SF,SD etc.) make for compact yet spacious storage space.

For those who had taken interests on my "how to buy" posts, you can click on my Gadget category on the sidebar. Thank you very much for visiting!

taggie from Miss Genny

I received this taggie from the wonderful Miss Genny asking me to write the not so obvious facts or habits about me. But since this is almost similar to the taggie i received the other day from Lovely Ruth, i decided to write the things i noticed about myself (change or quirkiness) during the period i am pregnant. They say pregnancy is different with every woman so let's see how different mine is.

8 Things About My Pregnancy

1. I do not have aversion to garlic or to anything smelly but i just do not want to cook. It's a struggle to fix a decent meal everyday hihi. But i forced myself because it would be a pity if we are going to have a baby girl and she would not want to have anything to do with a kitchen in the future. I hope this will change after i give birth because i always enjoyed cooking.

2. In the first three months, i really did not like to eat anything with cheese.

3. First trisem too, after meals were spent kneeling and throwing up in the bathroom. oh that was the hardest part.

4. First and second trisem, my dreams were all about guns and airplanes. It wasn't long before my ob-gyn declared we were having a baby boy.

5. I feel thirsty all the time. I bring water bottle with me everywhere i go.

6. Consequently, i know the nearest bathroom in every mall or park we visit. Ugh, i just need to pee every hour!

7. I can eat an egg every
day.

8. Back pain. Ouch, ouch ouch. This is the first time i experienced such excruciating pain.

Thanks again, Miss Genny for the thought. I had fun doing this. Keep them coming!!

how to buy

A fun girlfriend of mine, Lyn-Lyn received a PDA phone as birthday gift from her sweet boyf. I guess phones are a popular gift nowadays among younger people. With the gift giving season fast approaching and whether you intend to buy one for yourself or for your lady, remember these three things when buying a PDA/Smartphone.

1. Consider how long you're going to be carrying your PDA around for and choose a model which has a battery life to match. Many models feature replaceable batteries, meaning you can carry a spare for more lengthy use then replace the original whe required. Some PDAs also include docking cradles that can house your PDA and recharge its second battery at the same time.

2. If you're going to be spending a lot of time writing on your PDA, composing e-mails and so on, then you want a good input system. A touch screen and a stylus are two basic tools that must be looked out for. A growing number of PDAs also now come with a QWER
TY keyboard, but bear in mind that these are much smaller than the keyboard on a pc or notebook, and are consequently more difficult to type on.

3. Which platform? The biggest difference between Smartphone and PDA models is the operating system they run. Fast becoming the most popular is Windows Mobile for Smartphones, largely because Windows users appreciate the familiar interface, which is relatively easy to navigate around. However, the slightly less expensive Palm OS, Symbian and Nokia's onboard software are also clear, effective platfroms. It's really all down to personal preference.

how to buy

Wheew, after 3 opps i just have to get my ass out of here and take a shower. This will be my last entry for today. Tomorrow is Friday and hubby has no work so i am looking forward to some cuddle time hihi. I can feel the weekend wind teasing but let me finish this entry on buying tips.

I am member of the photography memes' Weekend Snapshot and Photo Hunter so do consider these three things when buying a digital camera...

1. First and foremost, consider a camera's resolution, which is measured in megapixels. 3.2 mega pixels is a fairly standard started specification for an effective entry-level happy snapper.

2. In addition to resolution, another important specs is a camera's zoom. A zoom of at least 3x is standard for entry-level modes. When comparing the zooms of possible buys, make sure to compare optical zooms rather than interpolated digital zoom figures, which result in lower quality images.

3. Look out for the hidden costs of a digital camera. Most will require immediate add-ons if they are to hold more than a dozen or so pictures at one time. How much this is true is determined by how much memory they have on-noard. For exam
ple, if your model comes with just 16Mbytes of RAM, you'll need to have a storage card.

Bye for now!!!

TrustSource.org

I had a taggie last week from dear blogger friend Recel, asking me about the three most important things in my life. My answers were: family, friends, and internet. Yeah, not a day goes by when i do not go online. You learn and experience a lot just by simple clicks from your fingers! There are simply just too many things awaiting to be discovered on the net. Take for example this helpful website i discovered called TrustSource.org.

The website helps you make the best choice among the thousands of products on the market. TrustSource.org presents you a list along with the reviews of the products from the people who have actually used it. Isn't that great news? This is empowering consumers before parting with their hard earned cash!

Name a product or service you have in mind and TrustSource.org will help you know if they are actually what they claim to be on the market. Ranging from Stop Smoking Guide to preventing hairloss to payday loans, the list and reviews are here.

Let's take a look on the products on preventing hairloss. I can relate to the topic because my husband and his friends discuss this often. Among the list at TrustSource.org is called Provillus. The product aggressively seeds your scalp to create an optimum environment for new healthy, hairs. One review from a user in Georgia said he notice his hair growing thicker and healthier after only three weeks of use! This gives you an idea what the product is capable of.

Then there is the popular quick cash called Cash Advance and PayDay Loans. TrustSource.org presented the more economical cash advance marketing sites and they came up with different payday loan sites to suit everyone's financial needs. Among the sites listed are called Womens PayDay, SilentCash Loan Cash Advance, and Urgent Cash Relief Pay Day Advance. These sites approved loan application quickly with absolutely NO credit check requires. The loan criteria approval is simply based on your employment status, minimum income and an active checking or savings account. This is certainly a good news for people who are in short-term need of cash advance.

So if you want to know what product really works, let TrustSource.org help you!

how to buy

Hubby and I visited the GITEX 2007 Electronics and Consumer Expo last month. This is the most awaited and the largest shopper show for techie addicts like us. Here they showcase the latest on gadget technologies, give you discounts, and let you take a peek on what is yet to come. With barely three months before Christmas, I know most people are thinking of getting the latest PDA, digi cam, portable notebook, or any other gadget kit as a present for themselves or for their loved ones.

Now before splashing your cash, let me share you first these how to buy tips we learned during the GITEX. For the next couple of days. I will be sharing tips for the top 10 most popular gadgets among consumers. So that the next time you visit your favorite electronics shop, you know exactly what you are getting.

Today I will guide you how to buy an Ultra-Portable Notebook

1. Look carefully at the core components on offer before parting with your cash. If you run intensive applications, opt for at least 512Mbytes of memory (1Gbyte if the notebooks' operating system is a flavour of vista) and a 1Ghz processor. if you are on a tight budget, opt for a faster CPU over more RAM, as you can always upgrade memory easily in the future.

2.If you travel a lo
t and need to get work done when on the go, it's a good idea to find out about the battery options on offer before buying an ultra-portable. While most feature four-cell battery configurations, some vendors offer up six and seven eight-cell set-ups, which can boost battery life immensely. Consider a second battery option too.

3. Should you create lots of data, spend extra for as large a hard drive you can afford.

4. If your work or business has turned you into a globetrotting extraordinaire, it's worth looking into whether or not the model you are keen on is covered by an international (or at least regional) warranty. This ensures you'll be able to get help when you're abroad if you face hard ware problems.

And that is all for today. Next time i will share you tips on buying a PDA/Smartphone so do come by again. Ciao!!

There is an online lender called CashAdvance1500.com that allows you to get cash advance pay day loan from $100-$1500 with NO credit checks required. The loan criteria approval is simple - based on your employment status, minimum income, and an active savings or checking account.

Online Shopping at Tobi.com

Shopping excites every woman I know. We don't mind the long lines at the cashier to pay for our purchases. We don't mind roaming around the shopping mall three times in a day just to get what exactly we want: simple yet stylish, elegant yet affordable. And the next morning, we just so wish we are back in the mall again shopping. But then, there are house chores to do, or in my case, a family to take care of. Plus I am also seven months pregnant so i have to stay away from shopping malls and long walks for now.

It's a good thing I discovered an online fashion boutique called Tobi.com. Here I found every woman and man's beauty and fashion needs. They have a wide array of accessories, beauty products, dresses, shoes, jeans, sweaters and jackets from respected fashion brands such as Diesel, Helmut Lang, Vince, and Paige.

Next month will be the 14th anniversary of hubby's company. As part of the annual celebration, there will be a huge gathering of all the employees and their families. The temperature is dropping everyday and by that time, the desert wind will come blowing cold air so i shall be needing a stylish sweater or knitwear to keep me warm. I found these elegant choices of sweaters from Vince:

I am also thinking of buying a new jacket for hubby an
d I narrowed my choices to these two Diesel jackets. I will let him choose when he comes home later.

And oh, I just have to show you that the hottest jeans style right now as caught wearing by Katie Holmes and Paris Hilton, is this wide trousers from Paige jeans and yes you can get it right here at Tobi.com.

Go on, indulge yourself because you deserve it. Visit Tobi.com right now!

Inside Airbus A380

Aviation industry all over the world is all eyes on Singapore Airlines after the delivery of their Airbus A380 yesterday. Touted as the largest commercial airplane, the A380 can accommodate 500-800 passengers. Though i also read on the local newspaper yesterday that analysts are doubtful whether the A380 will ever make money, lets take a tour inside first and think about the profit later.

It does make an impression in the skies, don't you think?

The Airbus A380 will make its first commercial flight on
October 25 via Singapore - Sydney Route.

Ohh i hope Emirates Airline or Etihad Airways will also order a fleet for Dubai. It's the only way we can ride this big baby!!!
